Orienteering

To celebrate the first 21 years of Spud Wood we have been busy building a permanent orienteering course that will take you around and about in Spud Wood.

A collaboration between Friends of Spud Wood (FoSW), Lymm Round Table and 3rd Lymm Scout Group with the support of The Woodland Trust and Bridgewater Canal Company has seen the creation of a new permanent Orienteering course at Spud Wood.

To mark the launch of the course we are hosting a “Family Orienteering @ Spud Wood” event as part of Lymm Festival. The free event is on Saturday 22 June running between 3-7pm, starting at Oughtrington Community Centre (on Oughtrington Crescent).

Come to the centre from 3pm with last entries at 6.30pm. We will provide a map and course sheet. Spud Wood is an easy, short walk along the canal bank from the centre.

You will need to return to the centre to post your results and see if you’ve won a prize!

There will be a number of different orienteering courses to suit various abilities that will use the new permanent course mixed with temporary ones. No experience is needed so come and have a go.

Orienteering is an exciting and challenging outdoor sport that exercises mind and body. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on an orienteering map. As a recreational activity, it doesn’t matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run or walk making progress at your own pace on the courses planned to suit you.

After the launch the map will be posted here so you can go and enjoy some orienteering when it suits you.
