Wednesday 23rd October 2019 saw our first Woodland Wednesday event.
Fantastic autumn weather allowed us to coppice a few hazel bushes that have been growing since Spud Wood was planted 21 years ago. The stumps will be cut down to near ground level during the winter and the bushes will sprout again next spring.
Coppicing rejuvenates the hazels and allows light into the woodland floor, promoting undergrowth and biodiversity.
There’s plenty more that need coppicing: contact Nick at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to join us at this weekly group volunteering event.
