Wood Allotments – update Jan ’14

Spud Wood - WA - Jan 14

I’m very pleased to say that we’ve been making good progress working with The Woodland Trust & Mersey Forest to get the Wood Allotment project started.  We have agreed with The Woodland Trust & Mersey Forest that anyone that wants to take on a wood allotment must:

  • Complete a tree felling training session
  • Sign up to be a Woodland Trust volunteer  (free)
  • Undertaken a certificated First Aid course

So at the moment it looks like there will be 13 wood allotments in this trial period.

We will kick off on the 26th January with tree felling training delivered by Pete from The Conservation Volunteers.  Tree felling training is 9.30am -1pm meeting at Stage Lane car park, tools are provided

For the First Aid training many of the potential allotmenteers have taken the free Heart Start sessions being run by Lymm Round Table,  The Heart Start session was really good so – if you are interested the next session is 7.30pm on Thursday 4th February 2014, contact heartstart@lymmroundtable.co.uk for more details.

See map, the wood allotments have been allocated an area that can be found by walking up the path from the Stage Lane car park over Grantham’s bridge and straight up towards Lower Helsdale Wood.  The wood allotments will be on the left hand side at the end near Helsdale Wood.  We will be putting up notices in the wood and car park so visitors to Spud Wood should know what is happening.
