• Investing in your community and getting a good rate of return;
• Helping local community organisations reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions; and
• Increasing the amount of renewable energy generated in the Lymm area?
Lymm Community Energy (LCE) is being established as an Industrial Provident Society (Co-operative), by Low Carbon Lymm in collaboration with Warrington Borough Council, to enable local people and organisations to invest in renewable energy installations that benefit local communities.
LCE will raise funds by issuing shares to investors who will then become members of the Co-operative. Our first projects will be solar photovoltaic (PV) systems fitted to community buildings. Occupants will benefit from lower electricity bills over at least 20 years. Income from the Feed In Tariff will be used to pay a return to investors and to fund local energy efficiency projects.
LCE intends to apply to HMRC for advance assurance that shares purchased through the share offer will be qualifying investments under the SEED Enterprise Investment Scheme which may allow members to claim tax relief on their investments.
Systems will be installed on buildings that benefit as many people as possible such as schools, community centres, libraries, church halls and sports clubs. We aim to start with a solar PV project on a school roof in autumn 2014.
